I just wanted a NAS, now ive got Headaches.

Okay so... lets keep it as short as possible.

What do i want to do with the "Server"?

- NAS (BTRFS)
- PiHole (Docker)
- Linux Mint w/ Waterfox as alternative for my shitty SmartTV OS.
- Staggered Cache. 4GB from the 16GB DDR4 and 64GB from the 256GB M.2 NVME

The Plan was simple: just a i3-12100 PC thats basically silent cuz it will live in my living Room.

But then i bought a Fractal Design Meshify 2 XL with all the HDD Cages. Fits like 20HDDs.

Then i needed a solution for more than 6x SATA on the LGA 1700 Platform. for that i had M.2 to 6x SATA w/ ASM1166 Chips in Mind. Plus, IF i needed more, PCIe x1 to M.2 Adapter for more SATA M.2 Cards.

So the Build is planned as follows:

CPU: Intel Core i3-12100
GPU: iGPU (UHD 730)
RAM: 2x8GB DDR4-3000
Mainboard: Gigabyte Z690 UD DDR4
Case: Fractal Design Meshify 2 XL
SSD: 256 NVME M.2
HDDs: 5x 2TB 3,5" different models. Also at least 5x 2,5" 500GB HDDs.
PSU: See below
Other: ASM1166 M.2 to 6x SATA
Other²: PCIe x1 to M.2 PCIE Adapter

What do i have already / bought already?

- i3 12100
- 16GB DDR4
- 256GB NVME
- Meshify 2 XL

Cool, then its fine right? Yeah but what about the power? HDDs need a SATA Power Cable. My Test PSU which i wanted to use has only 5x SATA (Pure Power 11 350W)

HERE WE ARE. Go find a reasonably priced PSU with at least 15x SATA Power. the last three days were a Headache.

I found two solutions.

1: Be Quiet Dark Power Pro 11 550W.

+ has 5 Periphal connectors
+ comes with 9 SATA out of the box
+ Periphial cable with 4x SATA costs 8€ so i can max out at 20x SATA power

- its old (like 2015 - 2020 produced)
- not really cheap (45€ for PSU used + 40€ for 5 Cables)

2: Corsair RM750X 2018/2021

+ 5 Periphial Connectors
+ COmes with 9 SATA oob
+ with 4x SATA Cable can also max 20 HDDs out
+ i already have one in my Main PC (can use cables to start with 15x SATA)
+ Newer

- 4x SATA Cable comes at you with a whooping 20€ Pricetag
- Efficiency for idling System (15-45W) is worse as a lower wattage model

So are these my only two options or is there something i have overlooked? Some PSU i didnt think of? I need help before i buy the wrong one. Pls help me out
