This is how I look at it

Putting 100% effort

Pro: At least I tried, there was nothing more I can do

Con: Wow, I tried my best and it wasn’t good enough

Putting in minimal effort

Pro: It’s not a big deal, it’s not like I even tried

Con: Maybe things would have worked out if I tried more, I may never know

In your opinion, which one hurts more? And try to think objectively in cases where you have done this, not just about which one you may be dealing with.

Bonus question: if your answer is that putting minimal was worse for you, then what drove you to do that given the potential consequences?
