Amazon is ending support for Kindles from 2013 and earlier on May 20, 2026.

They’ll still work — just won’t be able to download new books after that.

Which means if you’ve got one lying around, you can load it up now and turn it into a standalone library for a kid.

Pre-1930 books are mostly free, so you can pack it with classics + anything already in your account before it “freezes.”

Not the worst unintended outcome.

Heads up: Amazon is ending support for older Kindles (2013 and earlier) on May 20, 2026.

They won’t brick, but they won’t be able to download new books anymore.

If you’ve got one sitting around, you can basically preload it into a permanent library and give it to a kid.

A lot of pre-1930 books are free, so you can stack it with classics + whatever you already own before it locks in.

Kind of an interesting edge case in how they handled it.
