I’m a high school junior and I make music every day—at lunch, at home, wherever I can. I’m trying to figure out my path after graduation.

I’m really interested in the DAW/production side of music (arrangement, sound design, rhythm), but I’m also open to learning theory and engineering. The problem is, most schools I’ve looked into seem more focused on instruments or traditional music.

I’ve talked to Full Sail and looked into Drexel, but I’m trying to understand what these programs are actually like in real life. I also understand that full sail isn’t the best school.

For anyone who went to school for music production:

\* Did your program actually focus on DAWs and modern production?

\* Did it help you improve your sound?

\* Did it help you make real connections?

I’m serious about doing music long-term and just want to make the smartest decision.

Thank You

So I'm a junior in high school right now, and music has been a huge part of my life. When I'm not working on schoolwork or at my job, I'm making beats. I make beats at lunch, and I make beats wherever I can. My parents want me to go to a school where I can learn more about what I want to do in life. The thing is, I just don't know how much it would help me. I am totally open to learning more things about music, and I even want to learn more about it, like how music theory works and how you can make patches on a synth. But I just don't know if there is a school out there that just does that. I am also open to learning music theory and the engineering side of music, but I want to focus on the rhythm side and the DAW side of music. I have looked into schools, and I honestly cannot find a single one that stands out or that I really, really want to go to. Not only that, but I have spoken to Full Sail University people on the phone for an hour, and they made it sound so fun and everything, but then I look into it, and it's just bad review after bad review. I really want help finding a school that can make my dreams come true. I also know that when it comes to the music industry, it's mainly about connections, and that's where I am trying my hardest currently. Likewise, I love the music I make, even though it's not as popular (labeling it underground music because of the distorted trap sound), but I want to learn everything and still make the music I have the most fun making. I am very serious about doing this in life, but I just can't seem to find a school that stands out or even has what I want to do. But please, if I'm just blind or wrong and there is a school out there that does exactly what I'm describing, please tell me, because I want to make my dreams come true and make my parents proud.

Thank you!
