Scooter Accident
Hey Everyone...
My 11-year-old son was riding his scooter with another younger kid from school standing on the back. They weren’t doing tricks or riding recklessly, just being kids. At some point the other child lost balance, fell off, and hit his face pretty badly.
The parents called EMS and within minutes a fire truck, an ambulance, and four police vehicles arrived. Seeing that many emergency responders pull up for something that started as innocent kids playing was honestly surreal and overwhelming.
What made it even harder was that the other parents immediately started accusing my son of pushing their child off the scooter. My son insists he didn’t, and from everything explained at the scene, the police said there was no criminal activity involved and it appeared to be an accident.
I tried to calmly speak with the parents afterward, but they didn’t want to discuss the incident with me at all. The whole situation felt incredibly tense and heartbreaking.
My son has been really shaken up since it happened. He feels terrible and keeps replaying it in his head even though the other child willingly got on the scooter.
I know accidents happen, but as a parent it’s hard not to carry the weight of it all. Right now I honestly don’t know what I should do next, especially if we run into these parents again.
Has anyone dealt with something similar? What would you do in this situation?
