I recently applied for a Customer Service role and received an email via Indeed saying my profile had been reviewed and I could move to the next step of the hiring process.
The email included a link. When I opened it, I was redirected to download a “third-party interview app”
(In my case it was called Indeed Interview App) supposedly meant for Indeed interviews.
After installing it, the app immediately requested an update. Once approved, it installed another app called “Update” and then asked for Accessibility permissions.
That’s a red flag.
Apps requesting Accessibility access can potentially:
Control your device
Prevent you from Accessing your accessibility.
Steal your informations
Thankfully, I tested this on an old unused phone, so no damage was done. But this is clearly a scam attempt targeting job seekers.
If you ever receive interview links that:
Ask you to install apps outside the Play Store or App Store
Install hidden apps after an “update”
Request Accessibility permissions
Don’t come from official company domains
Do NOT proceed.
Always verify interview requests directly with the employer through official email addresses or LinkedIn before installing anything.
Sharing this as a warning so others don’t fall for it. Stay safe.
