I’m a first-time homeowner in Northern California so it’s hot here! I’m unsure if I should abandon this house fan or keep it? We did have a rat problem in the attic but had pest service close up all the gaps and have been rat free for at least a year.. however I know there are rat droppings still up there. We eventually plan to clean and re-insulate the attic.

I did attempt to turn on the fan a few months ago to see if it still worked and droppings fell out from the attic and I panicked! I immediately turned it off and haven’t used it since! :/

Should I reinsulate before using it again? Are there any screens to use to guarantee droppings or any other animals aren’t just going to fall on my head from the attic? lol
