Weather in Bangkok…
Am I crazy or is the weather in Bangkok not nearly as horrible as people make it sound?
I’ve been here since mid April right after Songkran until now, which is basically supposed to be the absolute worst time of year. Before coming, all I saw online were dramatic headlines calling Bangkok an “urban furnace,” people on TikTok showing their sweating buckets “after 10 minutes outside”, and extreme headlines about unbearable heat and “52 degree celsius heat index”, etc.
Don’t get me wrong, it’s definitely hot. But honestly It hasn’t felt that much worse than places like Florida.
What surprised me most is that Bangkok weather feels more manageable than I expected because there’s often a breeze, sudden cloud cover, and frequent rain that cools things down for a bit. Nights are usually normal and pretty tolerable too.
A few days have definitely been uncomfortable - especially walking some distances on streets with no shade, but I still remember feeling way more physically miserable in Tokyo during August. The heat there felt heavier and more like a furnance to me somehow. Bangkok so far has felt more “consistently tropical” than a brutally oppressive oven.
Maybe the nonstop online discourse had me expecting literal survival mode, but the reality has been much more manageable than I imagined. Curious if anyone else felt the same after visiting or moving here.
