Hey, I wanted some honest guidance from someone actually in this field.
I’m from a science background (PCM) and was preparing for JEE during 11th–12th. The thing is, over those 2 years I slowly realized I genuinely don’t enjoy engineering or PCM subjects at all. I could probably still do engineering if I forced myself, but studying those subjects constantly felt mentally exhausting and disconnected from my actual interests.
Recently I started exploring commerce/finance fields like CA, CMA, CFA etc. out of curiosity, and surprisingly I’m finding business/finance concepts much more intuitive and interesting than I ever found PCM.
The problem is: I have literally zero commerce background. Not even basics. So I’m confused whether this interest is genuine or whether I’m just attracted to something that currently feels “easier” compared to JEE prep.
Academically I’m not weak I scored 95% in 10th and 85% in 12th HSC.
What I wanted to ask you honestly:
- How difficult is CA/CMA for someone starting completely from scratch in commerce?
- Does genuine interest in business/finance actually help sustain the grind long-term?
- From your experience, do students who come from science backgrounds adapt well in these fields?
- And most importantly — how do you know whether you genuinely like finance/accounting/business, or just like the “idea” of it?
