AITAH for using my phone at church?
All conversations occurred in a different language and I'll be quoting the translations
I was never a big fan of church but my dad makes me go with them on Sundays. I usually just daydream or overthink during mass but this time I decided to go outside the church.
Cue me: Sitting on the outside of a chapel/shrine, so I can get away from the speakers while not bothering anyone.
No one comes here unless they wish to get some privacy, like to have a quick snack or a phone call. There's a security guard cabin and parking between the church and shrine.
This was probably where I was at fault but i was using my phone but my earphones were connected and I was listening to a podcast, and as mentioned, in a place where I wouldn't bother anyone.
I heard a women shouting something and assumed she was calling out to her children or nieces/nephews.
I see her sitting on a chair next to a water dispenser behind a car.
She's looking at me.
That's when I realised that she was calling ME.
And she wasn't calling someone's name, no!
She was swearing, loudly at me outside the church.
Now I really wish I could have reacted a bit more boldly but I just stood up from my spot and stared at her, confused.
"CAN'T YOU HERE ME? GET OUT OF HERE YOU CAN'T SIT HERE WITH YOUR PHONE GET OUT" She was really agitated but also looked like she was about to cry.
She then approaches to grab my arm and I told her to not touch me. My face starts to feel light because of anxiety and I didn't get time to get mad. She walks away and turns to look at me "OH SO YOU WON'T LISTEN TO WHAT I SAY? NOT EVEN THE POLICE?" and waves the security guard.
I go into the open to talk to him. I say that I'm just sitting outside because I had a migraine and she started swearing at me.
I didn't really expect him to take my side and he just told me that using my phone won't help my migraine and then left. The lady was also gone.
I'm was shook after that and just sat at the shrine till my parents came out. I was super embarrassed because there were other people socialising outside the church as well.
Told my parents. Mom said that this was a sign from God to make me sit inside the church blah blah we had a laugh.
I was still thinking about what happened though.
