I worked here twice and realized the culture never changes. I finally quit.

I’ve worked at this insurance agency twice now. The first time was in sales, and this second stint was as a CSR/Office Manager. I came back because I genuinely liked the staff, but after a few months, the rose-colored glasses came off: nothing has changed.
The sales staff is incredibly lazy. They won’t pick up the phones and offer zero backup to customer service. On a daily basis, I am the one answering every single call. If I’m away from my desk for even a minute, the phones just roll to voicemail because nobody else will touch them. If I do transfer a call to sales, the customer is lucky if they even pick up; it’s like they’re terrified the client might actually need something.
Everything they don’t feel like doing gets delegated to me. One of the owners even seems to think I’m the IT department. I’ve had to start immediately redirecting customers to the proper portals because I simply don’t have time to hold hands for password resets or account setups. My desk became the "catch-all" for every task the veterans here didn’t want to do or "forgot" how to do.
It’s the lack of basic competency that finally got to me:
• One salesperson literally doesn’t know how to take a payment.
• Another screws up constantly, and I’m the one left cleaning up the mess.
• There is zero accountability, even for major Errors & Omissions.
After being passed over for a raise that was previously discussed, I just lost interest. The owners are nice people, but my well-being is more important than subsidizing lazy coworkers.
I recently gave my resignation for a much better opportunity. I’m not looking for advice, but I wanted to share this: if you feel unappreciated or like a dumping ground at your job, don’t be afraid to look elsewhere. There are spots out there where you actually matter. It’s never too late to move on.
