Hi! I am a mom of 2, a 20 month old and a 5 week old. So far, my newborn daughter has been so different than her older brother when it comes to sleep and I am at a total loss for what to do and/or what to expect in terms of a timeline here for if and when this gets better. Any advice is greatly appreciated!
In short - I am struggling to put my 5 week old down on her back to sleep. Please don’t come at me, but the best sleep she gets will be in a SnuggleMe, while my husband or I are able to supervise her. I have been trying for weeks to get her used to back sleeping in her crib or bassinet while being only in her swaddle, but the most she will sleep is 20-30 min before the scrunched legs kick in that eventually wakes her up because she just can’t seem to settle herself back down. We have tried a rolled towel under her legs and that does not work. We wait until she’s been in a deep sleep for 15-25 minutes, use a sound machine, lay her down booty first then head very gently, etc. we do all the things…but nothing seems to work and allow her to sleep an extended period of time without the leg reflex kicking in. I do not want to co-sleep and tbh, I’m really struggling mentally with all the contact naps.
We are exhausted and frankly I’m so overwhelmed by it because it’s nothing I experienced with my first so it’s very new to me. While I don’t know if there is anything specific I really can do to help her, I’m wondering if anybody has gone through this with their newborn and if so, how long did it last and what got you and your baby through it?
Thank you for any and all support !
