There's a ton of gaps/cracks in the existing mortar and considering getting replaced with dry verge instead so redoing the mortar isn't needed in the future.

The gable end has hanging tiles all the way down which we would like to keep, but means there's no existing overhang (and issue in itself for damp)

Would extending the battens to add dry verge to be possible while keeping the hanging tiles?
