July 4th as an exvangelical US citizen

Being around my family gives me hives and my dad’s holiday is the 4th. This is after he left my mom & four kids for another woman and continued right on being an Upright Christian Leader in every church he became a part of for the next 20 years. But he’s a powerful businessman with a lot of political power and I am afraid to anger him… yet I don’t think I can bear a minute around Trumpers right now, let alone 10+ hours of driving around an entry level job just to see their empty faces for 8-10 hours.

Am I nuts to consider not going? If I don’t, how can I handle it?

It might make me vomit to celebrate my nation’s 250th birthday around their political beliefs praising the Orange Man and condemning the Woke Mob (though they add disclaimers since they know I’m One of Them).

The only reason I haven’t been openly disowned is because we rarely talk anyways and I made my feelings on Trump and Christian nationalism years ago.

Is it better just not to go? If so, how do I handle it?

This “honor your parents” stuff is hard to deprogram.
