I had my wisdom teeth, all 4, removed last Tuesday under general at hospital. I was under for I think just under 2 hours (went in at 8.30, woke up at 10.30). My bottom two were impacted, one severely infected and growing horizontally into the neighbouring tooth. Top two were just growing out towards gums and causing difficulty with eating/brushing etc.).

My left side is pretty alright, a little jaw ache, a minor flare up of pain as pain relief wears off. But my right hand side of my mouth I have no idea. It’s so painful when the meds wear off even almost 8 days later. I’m up in bed awake again at 1am because the pain has woken me up. Granted it’s better than it was (I was initially taking 2x paracemetol and 2x ibuprofen every 4 hours round the clock because I’m breastfeeding and can’t take codeine and the pain was excruciating then. Now I’m generally down to one of each or one or the other just unless the pain gets bad.)

Is it normal to still be getting PAIN at 7/8 days post surgery? Is it possible if the site was a tricky extraction and caused a lot of pain in the area? Or is this a sign of infection and/or dry socket? I’m back to solo parenting tomorrow when my partner goes back to work and dental stuff makes me so anxious as I don’t handle the pain of being poked around in my mouth at all.

I also still can’t chew/fully open my mouth. It aches and it’s sore like I’ve chewed for a thousand days lol. I’m stuck on soft/liquid foods or minimal bite food like mac and cheese because I can basically mush it with the middle of my mouth and swallow without chewing.

Should I contact the hospital to go and get it checked out or is this just a normal timeline of healing for having had all 4 teeth out?
