Advice? De-Millennial Grey-ing My Apt Kitchen
I’m renting this gorgeous 1930s apartment and while I love the fact that the building installed a W/D and new appliances, I’m really struggling with the bland, grey kitchen makeover that they did.
My ideas to improve it so far:
-A coat of paint on the walls (color would be great but it is rather dark already, the only window in there is on that back door)
-New cabinet knobs (preferably under $350 total)
-A good rug (maybe anti-fatigue and not too large as we like to roll the kitchen island out for guests to sit at while we cook - I love hosting)
-Maybe some contact flooring with poster paper underneath (worried about water though)
-A curtain over the W/D unit
- Some pieces above the cabinets
Some notes:
- Cabinets are a super neutral grey and I can’t paint them nor do I want to do contact paper
-I hastily installed some under-cabinet strip lighting and threw up the string lights to bring some warmth
-All the decor can stay or go and is currently unstyled
-Air Fryer, Electric Kettle, and Milk Frother need to stay on the counter bc we use them daily
-The only natural light is from that back door or the opening into the dining room (these pics are on a sunny day - which is rare here in the PNW)
-I don’t believe in contact paper for the countertops either bc its a high use surface + water
We have a pretty tight budget (this is my first adult apartment) but I’m willing to invest in good paint + a quality rug and I’m a fb marketplace/thrifting fiend. I attached a couple pics at the end of the parts of the apt that are more finished to give you an inclination of my style as well. I love a craftsman, homey/inviting interior and love the modern folk trend thats happening now but also fear going too trendy with pieces I invest in.
Would love any advice you guys have, particularly on paint color and flooring!
Edit: Jeez guys I know I’m renting but I’ll be here a few years and don’t you guys also enjoy interior decorating?? Isn’t that why we’re all here? I’ve been looking forward to doing projects like these for years!
Thank you to all the nice comments and suggestions though! I love this apartment and I can’t wait to make it my own
