I refuse to watch movies where the cat dies
Applies to dogs and other pets too, but cats seem to get the fridge treatment the most in horror.
I truly hate the cliche of killing the cat or other pet in a brutal way to “turn up” the horror. It’s done to the point where it’s predictable and boring, and does nothing but force me to watch an animal being killed. I don’t feel more on edge, I don’t feel like the horro is mounting. It just sucks.
So I refuse to watch movies where the pet gets iced. And I don’t regret it. It’s lazy writing. Ratcheting the tension up can be done so much better with sound effects, music, and even camera angles. If you have to kill a pet in a horrific manner to make things “scarier”, you’re just a bad writer.
