due to the great summer sale ongoing, what would be the best option for a large trolley bag for an overseas trip of 1 year?

I recently had a Google pixel 7 suffer some water damage and sent it to the authorized service center. And the feedback was that the screen and display could not be repaired and that replacement was the only option. While they did suggest that, the service center is offering to replace the phone with a pixel 9 at just 375 USD. Is this safe?

I found it weird that they are giving an 800 USD phone for such a low price while replacing a water damaged screen.
Is this a common occurrence? And is it safe to take this option? As I am concerned about my data on the damaged phone.

And is it ever possible to transfer the data to the newer pixel if I were to choose the replacement that Google is offering?
