I bought a used Latitude 5520 recently and the palmrest was looking rough, so I ordered a replacement and swapped them out myself. Everything went fine until I wanted to use the laptop afterwards and noticed that the frame around the keyboard (which I had transferred over from the old palmrest) was bent outwards, making the keys in the middle look sunken. When I took a ruler to it it was definitely not level anymore.
I disassembled everything again to check in case something hadn't been fitted properly and was causing the warp but it looks like it's just the palmrest itself. I think I may have put too much pressure on it during the swap and with the slight concavity of the keyboard frame it wasn't supported by the work surface.
I don't really want to buy a new palmrest since I saved for the first replacement but using the laptop as is is not working for me. Does anyone know of a way to bend the frame back into place? If it can't be done and a replacement is the only option some tips on how to prevent this happening again would be welcome. This was my first time doing a repair like this to my tech and while I'm grateful that it still works, I can't really use it with the keyboard the way it is.
Any advice would be appreciated.
