Hi everyone,

I’m helping a friend recover his Instagram account, but we’ve hit a very strange technical wall. Here is the situation:

The Issue.. My friend's account was suspended which we believe is an AI false suspension. Initially his username appeared as User Not Found..

Accessing the recovery link, After a week from the suspension we used the instagram.com/hacked link.

The Discrepancy..

From my device (abroad, using VPN on same city as his) When I enter his phone number, the system recognizes his account. It allows me to verify via WhatsApp code (which he receives), then asks for a new email, and finally prompts for the Video Selfie verification.

From his device (on the same city): When he does the exact same steps, the system doesn't ask for WhatsApp or a Video Selfie. Instead it asks him to Enter a New Password.

The Error... Every time he enters a new password, he gets this error message: "Unable to log in. An unexpected error occurred. Please try logging in again."

The Dilemma...

The account is clearly still in the database since I can reach the Video Selfie stage from my device, but I can't do the selfie for him. He is stuck at the New Password screen with a persistent Unexpected Error.

Has anyone encountered this specific loop? Why does the system give different recovery paths for the same account, and how can he bypass the "Unexpected Error" to reach the Video Selfie stage on his own device?

Any help would be appreciated!
