My washing machine (MTW5840TW0) started randomly making a loud grinding noise during the spin cycle and isn't spinning, it almost sounds like something is spinning underneath and grinding but nothing is actually spinning. When I spun it manually, I also heard a weird kind of grinding noise.
I took it apart and got the motor and the clutch off, but now I'm trying to figure out whether it's a clutch problem or a bearing or transmission issue.
I'm able to spin the clutch just fine and I can see the motor turning and don't hear any noises, not sure if it's too worn down or if there's an issue with that.
Is there anyway to determine what the root cause is?
It's a much older washer, so I've only found a few videos on youtube working with this specific model.
I included a picture of what it looks like from the bottom with the motor and clutch removed and then a picture of the clutch.
And here's a diagram of the parts that I found for my specific model if it helps.
