I am the Best Man at a wedding soon and I am getting worried because I don't know what I am supposed to do on the day. I have tried searching online but I get a lot of conflicting information or a lot of information that is very America-centric.
Could somebody please spoon-feed me exactly what I will do on the day? A really unambiguous step-by-step of my exact movements during the ceremony would help solve a lot of anxiety I am currently feeling.
What most worries me is what I'm supposed to do in the ceremony? For instance:
- Am I supposed to stand somewhere during it or do I take a seat?
- I read online that the Best Man typically holds the rings and then presents them when asked, when doing this
- Where exactly do I stand? (Wouldn't I get in the way of the attendees if I stand opposite the registrar?)
- Who do I present them to?
- Do I present them in a box or remove them from the box ahead of time?
- Am I supposed to be the legal witness? (I have read online that the Best Man typically is the witness, but somebody told me that in weddings they've been to that somebody else is typically nominated to give other people a part in the wedding).
- Am I already present in the room as guests arrive or am I supposed to enter during the ceremony in some way?
I'm sure it changes a little bit from wedding-to-wedding, and I can ask the groom for some details, but I don't want to pester him with a barrage of questions that most people would already know th eanswer to when he's already going to be stressed. I'd like to go in prepared with a good base-level of knowledge so that I can help the day go smoothly and so that I don't mess up the ceremony with my naivity.
