2022 Kia Niro EV
I have a 2022 Niro EV that I bought from a dealer a year ago. It’s been great for me until a week ago. I was driving and the EV light illuminated and the Check Electrical Vehicle System warning displayed.
No change to the way the car drove. No drop in range, no loss of acceleration, everything just as it has been. Turned the car off and on and the light came back, let it sit for a day, light still came on.
I went to charge it at work, charging began normally and a very short time later I got a notification that it was fully charged. ChargePoint app showed that it charged 1 mile of range and then stopped drawing power (leading to the assumption that it was fully charged)
Made an appointment at the dealer and dropped it off that day. They’ve done all the testing and believe that it’s a faulty high voltage battery.
With the car at 37,000 miles the battery is covered under warranty once they confirm that’s the issue (they sent all the testing results to Kia to verify). It’s now been 8 days and all they can tell me is they have an open ticket with Techline and they continue to run tests to figure out the issue. They can replicate it - and assume it’s high voltage battery, but nobody seems to know for sure wtf is going on.
Just got to figure out transportation in the meantime since the dealer doesn’t offer loaner vehicles.
After an additional week, the Techline case is still open. I found out today they had to drop the battery by basically disassembling the chassis and wait for more diagnostic results to be sent back to them with guidance on what to do next.
Anyone ever experience anything similar?
