12U hitter "not seeing the ball" — Jeff Frye (9-year MLB) gives a 90SecondClinic breakdown

Earlier this week u/Scottbiggie posted asking for swing advice for his kid — felt like he wasn't seeing the ball, looking for help diagnosing what was off.

We got Jeff Frye to break it down. Jeff played 9 years in the big leagues with the Rangers, Red Sox, Rockies, and Blue Jays, and is one of only 349 players in MLB history to hit for the cycle. He took the tape, watched it a few times, and recorded a 90-second breakdown calling out exactly what's happening in the swing and the specific work to do about it.

Jeff's profile if you want to send him your own tape: https://www.90secondclinic.com/coaches/jeff-frye

u/Scottbiggie — hope this gives you and your kid something concrete to take to the next practice session. We'd love your feedback if you had a moment to review and if you want to share a thank you video back to Jeff, let us know!

For everyone else: this is what we do at 90SecondClinic. You submit your tape with a specific question, a former pro breaks it down on video. Jeff is one of a growing list — a handful of MLB and softball pros taking submissions right now, with more being added.

We're also running a free promo right now where we're picking submissions to break down at no cost as we get the platform off the ground. If you want a shot at one: https://www.90secondclinic.com/fungo-promo-2026

In high school I was lucky to get five minutes with Tony Gwynn at a showcase tournament (right place, right time). He broke down my swing mechanics, changed my 2 strike approach and gave me insights on game prep. Those five minutes were more impactful than years of well intentioned but less useful input from coaches and dads.

I've been thinking about that a lot lately as a dad coaching my own kids in little league. Finding that kind of input — from someone who actually played at a high level — is nearly impossible for most families. The gap between "dad coach who means well" and "someone who's been there" is massive, and most kids never get access to the latter.

Curious how other baseball parents navigate this. How do you find genuinely good instruction — not just someone with a lesson plan and a net, but someone whose experience actually backs up what they're teaching?

In high school I was VERY lucky to get five minutes to talk with Tony Gwynn at a showcase tournament. He broke down my swing — approach, mechanics, how to think before, during and after each at bat. Those five minutes instantly improved how I played. Most kids never get that moment.

That's why we built 90SecondClinic. And to celebrate our launch we're giving a handful of clinics away for free.

We have a limited number of spots for youth baseball players (Majors Little League through college) to get a free hitting or pitching analysis from a current or former professional player. You submit your kid's mechanics video, a verified pro breaks it down in 90 seconds — what's wrong, why it's happening, exactly what to do to fix it.

Why 90SecondClinic?

Most youth athletes get advice from people who've never played past high school — if that. Dad coaches, rec league veterans, YouTube gurus who've never faced live pitching. They mean well. But meaning well isn't the same as knowing.

A former MLB player has spent years fixing their own mechanics under pressure, learning what actually separates good from great because they've lived both sides of it. That knowledge doesn't expire when their career does. And most kids will never have access to it.

Until now.

First come, first served — once the spots are gone, they're gone.

To claim a spot:

  1. Like this post
  2. Comment "interested" and whether it's for hitting or pitching
  3. Submit your video(s) at https://www.90secondclinic.com/fungo-promo-2026

No catch. It's On us.
