Got the email today: Orbi AC3000 tri-band mesh system (RBK53) hits end of service June 15. No more firmware or security updates after that. Router works perfectly fine, which makes it extra annoying, but I get it.
They're pointing me toward the Orbi 770 WiFi 7 mesh 3-pack with a 20% discount code. Tempting, but I'm not married to Netgear at this point.
My situation:
- Wife and I are full-time WFH, so reliable and reasonably secure connection matters
- Larger suburban house, two stories, maybe 4,000 sq ft
- Mix of laptops, phones, lots of smart home devices, streaming
Not looking to spend $600+ if I don't have to, but I'll pay for something that actually holds up.
What would you replace it with? Eero, TP-Link Deco, and Google Nest are on my radar but I don't have strong opinions yet. Would also consider staying with Netgear if the 770 is genuinely worth it and not just a rebadged upsell.
Appreciate any real-world experience and advice.
