Portable creative sampler suggestions?

hey all,

I've had so much fun with the KOII but ended up selling it since the 128MB storage is a no go.

But this experience shed a light on what I'm looking for: a portable creative sampler with these go to feats:

- portable (must)

- has a sequencer & tracks (nice to have)

- effects can be performed live (ideally only sends in order to retain eventual tails when disegnaged) (must)

- has great sounding effects (must)

- ideally has a song mode too (nice to have)

- I can resample what I'm doing at any time (even if I leave the resampler page - my biggest limitation with my AKAI Mpc One + ) (must)

- has SD card for storage (must)

- has a great sounding warping-pitching algorithm (must)

- battery powered (super nice to have)

I already know the OP1 Field would tick all of these and more but I just can't justify the price - even second hand. Awesome little machine but no.

Also I've bought the MPC Sample but returned it after a 3 weeks deep dive since to my ears it doesn't sound good due to its subpar warping-pitching algorithm and most of all the bad sounding FXs. (reverb is almost obscene lol)

Torso S4 is the only I've found so far.

anything else comes to your mind?

btw I don't do vinyl sampling or such. I do game audio and do all sorts of experimental stuff with samples

Thanks!!

MPC Sample sound quality

Coming from the KOII I'm enjoying all the benefits of the Sample but overall to my ears the KOII sounded just better overall

especially when it comes to inbuilt FXs - which contributes a lot for the overall sound of the device obvs (not to mention an issue with the compressor that clicks super easy with low end transients, and I know the AKAI team is aware of that and they suggested to make a template project with the compressor bypassed for now)

I find the Sample reverbs to sound pretty bad - especially the pad fx default state which sounds quite awful to my ears and being just a bad sounding reverb all together.

There's this general tendency to create clicks and pops and the overall sound to be too dusty all the time and I'm guessing is coming from a not yet optimized sound engine rather than a wanted character.

And it's not about the samples since yesterday I was using some samples (I used Jura) I used on the One + and they sounded much better and more pristine, saved them as a drum program for the MPC Sample, made something there and they sounded more dusty, crackly and overall more out of focus. And I'm guessing is a combination of the pitch algorithm + FXs.

Was wondering if you had a similar feeling.

One + Sampler: applying a short fade-in-out to all samples

hey all

is there a quick way to do this?

I often record 2-3 mins performances that I chop into smaller regions (30-50+)

is there away to add a fade in/out processing to all regions in one go?

I'm currently enjoying the "base" MPC workflow on the One+ but was wondering if, in your experience, the clips clearly stepped it all up when it comes to rocrding and most of all arranging full tracks

Would you say it was generally worth the upgrade for you?

hey

I'm currently working on a game theme on the One+ and I've saved the project while it was on playback

I've noticed that the drum programs lost all the allocated samples but they still play the sounds (events are in the arrangement)

question is: is it generally safe to save during playback? ever happened to any of you before?

not sure if it's a bug I should report to the team (currently I'm on 3.8)

hey all,

I'm exploring the autosampling feature and I just recorded the NI Ebony Kit with 3 velocity layers

seems everything has been sampled correctly but whenever I play the pads, sounds are played inconsistently

any idea why?

PS: solved the clipping. Input was too hot

UPDATE: I also tried with a single velocity layer but I still get the same inconsistency

sometimes it just doesn't play any sound for like 5-6 seconds then it starts again

I so often spend time fiddling with a sound (whether is a sample or a synth) in real time and would love to record these moments, edit them, chop them and build my sound library within the One+.

I obvs tried using the inbuilt sampler and resample but as soon as I change page and go back to the synth page and start fiddling with knobs, it stops recording.

is there a way to achieve so?

I was thinking about retrospective recording but I haven't found a way to route the plugin MIDI track to an audio track.

What I need to is to be able to record not just the static sound but the sound plus all those manipulations
