Kicking this off as I need a place to start tracking this topic and what better place then with you all on Reddit. This is first check in with 2k miles on Valvoline restore & protect and a catch can, and will be adding updates in the comments hopefully every 10k.
2021 Kia Telluride SX AWD purchased new
Oil changes every 5,000 miles with synthetic (myself) or dealership
80% City driving 20% highway 21MPG on average
Current mileage 44,000miles.
3k OD first oil change I noticed oil was darker than I've been used to with other cars I've owned. 6.9 quarts goes in and noticed was above the full mark on the dipstick.
10k OD second oil change I did in the car I noticed ~5.5qts came out and I knew something was up
35k OD (7k miles ago) I decided to start using a catch can and installed one on my own. After the first oil change with the catch can I noticed there was about half a cup of oil in there (5k miles driven), clean oil, no fog, no odd residue.
42k OD (2k miles ago) I started using Valvoline restore and protect.
44k OD first check in (today)
1: Dipstick under full mark but oil not black just light tint
2: Catch can has a few tablespoons of oil in it and what looks to be carbon being cleaned out!! (See images).
