Best/childhood friend romances are one of my favorite flavors of F/M romance and I don't think I've ever read a book with a M/M one
Books that there's definitely no other book like it
Because I clearly want to scare myself out of my favorite hobbies. Looking for anything about horrors out in the woods- preference for longer term stories as well (anyone ever write about horrors along the months long trek on the Appalachian trail?)
In 1974, Mendal W. Johnson published his only novel- Let's Go Play at the Adams'.
The novel took a common comedy trope- a babysitter tied up by her charges so they can run amok, and takes it to extreme- a college aged babysitter is incapacitated by her charges during an extended period of them being left in her care. It gets worse >!as the kids slowly realize they're going to get in trouble no matter if they let her go now or later, and begin to take their resentment of this fact out of on her. This escalates until they end up killing her and blame a nearby hobo for her death to get away with it!<
An incredibly bleak book with an ending that made an impact on basically everyone who read it, it spawned a self-published sequel by Barry Schneebeli, a TV writer, in which he revised the original ending >!having an unexpected visitor intervene and save the MC at the last minute and follows as the fallout over the novel's events ensue!<
Unfortunately, this was published on his (own website, which is no longer up and since the Internet Archive only archived the website not the .pdf files that were linked, it isn't of great use either.
Best bet to find it would be someone who kept the .doc files downloaded for re-reading but who knows if that will ever happen.
