We got an Uber but were told to get a taxi cos we didn’t have our own car seat. That’s fine.

The taxi didn’t have one either but apparently that’s ok. The signs at the queue said that the standard fee to get into the CBD was $60, and I confirmed it with the queue attendant before boarding.

When we got on the meter hit $33 and was jumping like crazy by the minute. I sensed something wrong and asked the driver if the fare was the fixed $60 as stated on the signs. He said we were going by the meter and I said there was something fishy about the meter. He claimed it was cos this was a toll road and his was a maxi cab.

He offered to drive me back to the airport thinking I wouldn’t say yes but I did.

Please tell this tourist whether this is a scam or did I just wrong a person trying to make an honest living. I got cheated at PER too and it’s unfortunate but the driver was of the same ethnicity.

Now I know why parties like One Nation are getting traction and why people think there’s something wrong with immigration.

Is there no way to get an Uber with a toddler? I don’t fancy getting fleeced again while on holiday. And come one Australia’s a developed country so such scams are kinda unexpected.
