What are your experiences, tips/tricks for long distance sports like Bikepacking?

Hi everyone!

I'm 24 years old and have been living with T1D since I was 14.

I have been on several solo bikepacking trips.

Getting a CGM sensor was a game changer and I'm lowering my Novorapid and Tresiba units before and during my trips to be able to handle these long demanding self-sustained adventures.

However, I did sometimes have highs during the nights after setting up camp. I learned the hard way that I was overcorrecting my lows with gummy worms and other snacks after long days on the bike. I’m still figuring out the right balance between preventing lows and avoiding rebound highs during multi-day trips.

For those of you with T1D who do long rides, bikepacking, hiking, or other endurance adventures, do you have any tips or strategies that work well for you?

I've spent an amazing week in Italy 🇮🇹, biking through the Amalfi coast, 1 day in Napoli, then I biked up to Mount Matese. I had to change my whole plan because of the snow-situation and booked a train to Tuscany and explored the coast of Formia and the lagoons around Orbetello. On my way back home I saw Rome, Florence, spent a night near Trieste and visited Koper as well on the Slovenian side.🚴☀️

I also made some videos, I attached the link in a comment. 🎦

I took several trains from Hungary to Salerno, I had an amazing time biking the Amalfi coast, spent 1 night in a hostel in Naples and biked all the way up to the Matese mountains where I faced a big obstacle, the northern side of the mountain was still completely frozen. I descended down to about 1400m and spent the night there, waking up to a completely frozen bicycle and tent.

I had to change my whole route due to this and I was really done with the low temperatures so I took a train to Tuscany and I explored the beautiful coast of Formia, then the area of Orbetello.

I had amazing food, met the kindest coolest people and explored breathtaking sceneries! There was horrid rain but also healing sunshine!

I made some videos about the trip which are available on youtube: https://youtube.com/shorts/lGnLJ\_585PQ?is=PDF-upnlyNe6AztQ
