3D printed customizable bridge piers

So I made a bridge... then I needed something to hold the thing up.

That turned into a whole side quest, and I ended up designing a set of customizable O gauge bridge piers. There’s a base, interchangeable risers, and a top, so you can mix and match heights depending on what your layout needs. I also set them up to line up with tubular and FasTrack trestle heights.

So if you’ve got a bridge like mine and need supports that fit a little better than the usual off-the-shelf options, these might help. And if your bridge isn’t exactly like mine, that’s kind of the whole point: these aren’t just one-size-fits-all parts. The different risers let you change the height, and the design can be customized further if you need something a little taller, shorter, or just different for your own layout.

I uploaded the files to MakerWorld in case anyone else can use them.

And of course, if you make a set I'd love to see how you're using them!

Beyond what’s already in Orca has anyone added any custom start/end code to your printer? I remember having to do it in Cura for my old Creality printers but can’t think of a reason for the Max.

Just curious if you did, what did you add and what are you solving for.

I can't believe I forgot to make this post but The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride is coming up on May 17th, just a few weeks away. If you can, consider supporting a local rider.

Every year, riders around the world dress sharp, fire up classic and vintage-style motorcycles, and take part in The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride to raise money and awareness for men’s health.

The ride supports Movember’s work around prostate cancer research, testicular cancer awareness, mental health, and suicide prevention. It is a fun-looking event on the surface, but the cause behind it is very real.

If you see someone local fundraising for the ride, consider tossing them a few bucks, sharing their post, or just asking them about it. A lot of riders are trying to make a difference one donation at a time, and even small donations help.

I’m not posting my own fundraiser link here due to privacy concerns but if anyone wants to support the cause you can donate from the main page or send me a chat for my direct link to contribute to my individual fundraising goal.

Thanks, and ride dapper.

So this is train related in so much as it's on the train repair and kitbashing side of things. I was at dollar tree for something totally unrelated and saw they had these cutting mats and figured they were good for a surface to glue on or use my hobby knife on so I don't mess up my table tops. Then I decided I'd build around it and made a workstation/repair station organizer thing. IDK what to call it but it holds the mat with a 1 mm lip around it so your parts don't wander off and there's a couple of small parts bins and some slots for screwdrivers, a hobby knife and other tools. I made it customizable so you can resize some of the parameters. Take a look, you might find it useful. Thanks!

Here's my Lionel Disneyland 35th anniversary engine and tender. They made two versions of this, completely identical except one came with a display case. Mine is the one without the display case.

This is from 1990, conventional operation and plastic. Lots and lots of plastic. For some reason the engine smokes (though I can't prove it from my engine) but there's no whistle in the tender. I guess that was a step too far. Lionel also never made any passenger cars for this thing which was a real shame and it particularly bothered me there there were no O gauge cars like this that I could find. I decided to make my own and posted my "prototype" which was actually pretty close to my final version and then print a few in colors that were closer to the colors used on the engine and tender.

You can see in the video the engine and tender pulling a set of cars round my office and below is the Makerworld link if you want to download and print your own cars.

Well the printer got delivered today and I got it put in its final resting place, plus or minus a few inches in either direction. The eMMC upgrade is apparently coming directly from China so it's going to take a few days to get here so I guess I'm going to hold off on assembling the printer until that gets here and I can replace that and the one fan before I put this behemoth together.

This isn't my first printer but it is my first Sovol and I guess my first Klipper printer. My old Creality printers ran Marlin and my Bambu printers run whatever Bambu does.

Besides the fan replacement and eMMC upgrade I know there's some code I should change to make the fan not run all the time and also some stuff about the filament feeder that I forgot now.
