My partner and I routinely have dinner and drinks at a local restaurant with a group of friends we’ve had for many years. In the first ten minutes of arriving, my partner left to take a phone call. I suspected what was true, which was that a deal had closed he’d be working towards at work. One returning he shared the news, and I asked him to wait to elaborate more once one person who has left the table returned. However, when the additional person returned, we were both involved in another conversation. My partner never brought up their news for the remainder of the evening, yet was involved in many other conversations. At the end of the evening they revealed they were extremely upset as they expected me to “tee them up” to talk about their big news. This was quite shocking to me as I suspected that they would simply announce their news to the group themselves. I was unaware that it was supposed to be my job to direct the attention to them. Should I have promoted them to resume? AITA?
