I’m planning a small half-hip roof tied into my house and want to make sure I’m approaching the connection details correctly.

The setup I’m going for is two front posts (about 8 ft out from the house), with the roof tying back into the wall. The ridge comes to a narrow point at the house (half-hip style).

Looking at similar builds, I’ve got a few questions:

Is the horizontal board attached to the house the ledger board, and does it run the full width of the roof? Can the rafters terminate at the house like shown in the reference (supported from underneath into the ledger), or is that not structurally sound? At that connection point, are **Simpson Strong-Tie clips/ties typically used? If so, which type? I see temporary blocking in some builds holding beams in place during install—what’s the permanent method used to secure those beams/rafters into the house? For this type of structure, what’s the correct way to anchor everything back into the framing of the house (not just sheathing)?

I’m in a heavy snow-load area, so I want to make sure this is built properly and up to standard.

Appreciate any insight from those who’ve framed something similar.
