I started trying to learn about all of this VGC stuff after my wife got into Scarlet and Violet in late March. I had heard of Wolfey from other video game people, so I watched one of the tournaments where he won with perish trap. I was instantly hooked. I knew I wanted to learn how to do it, so I went to Reddit. That wasn’t as productive as I thought it’d be.
Every post I would see on the subject kept saying something like, “perish trap sucks if you’re not Wolfey” and “learning how to use this strategy is really not good for beginners”. So I decided I would dedicate some of my free time to learning this game and learning how to perish trap through trial and error.
My team isn’t perfect, and isn’t even the one I tore through the ladder to climb to Masterball 2 and 1618 on Showdown with. For the tournament, I replaced my beloved Dragonite with Incin, which I barely used and regret replacing. I still love my first real team I built myself. I got up to 1618 on the Showdown ladder, and placed in the top 1% in this tournament with my team fully dedicated to perish trap. I didn’t have time to play my last 6 games of the tournament because my wife and I had dinner plans with friends last night, but I think I definitely could have placed even higher.
