9 months ago, the compressor on my Carrier Infinity AC system died catastrophically.

My local HVAC service company replaced it with a 3 ton Bryant 191VAN variable speed system, with a new Bryant smart thermostat to match. My gas furnace was left in tact and continues to work fine.

The issue i've had since installation only occurs when the ambient temperature is on the cooler side, maybe 65 degrees F or lower. It's common around this time of the year for our house to need cooling in the upper floors in the evening after absorbing a lot of heat from the sun during the day. Opening the windows isn't an option, since we live in a noisy urban area and my kids have bad allergies.

When the compressor kicks on, it makes a horribly loud sound (video for proof) before the fan spins up.

My carrier compressor never did this, and I've had the service techs return twice only to tell me "it's working as designed" and that I am basically dumb for having the AC on (in auto mode) when the evening temp drops down.

I understand the challenge for a compressor to run when the ambient temperature is low, but this unit advertises low ambient cooling down to 0F (and i verified low ambient cooling is enabled), so I'm having a very hard time believing this is normal behavior. I'm also concerned about causing damage to a new compressor that cost a small fortune.

Thank you in advance for any advice you can give!
