hello! i don't use reddit, nor am i famillar with how this works. but i've come here to reach out for some help.
my dad recently gave me his 2000 jaguar xjr supercharged 4.0L V8 with about 120K miles, ive wanted this car since i was young and he's finally decided to let go. it has been sitting for give or take 5 years due to the fact that one day it went into limp mode on a trip to a nearby gas station. most people would either let it rot, junk it, or tell you that its not worth the time and effort, and they might be right- i told my dad i'd love it and get 'er up and running again. i am by no means a professional mechanic, but i've had my fair share of tinkering. i know just enough to point at most things in a car and i'd be able to name them. but i feel thats like taking science classes in HS and expected to complete a very serious surgery with no mess ups. but all jokes aside, i'm a very motivated and a hard headed person- i'll do whatever it takes to get a car running, especially one that i've loved for years. now to the issues.
i've been told that using a code reader on a car when its not running can throw codes that aren't true, i don't know if thats correct or not but heres what we know.
the car is cranking but not starting, even with a new battery (this issue did not occur until it sat for 5 years)
there is a very miniscule coolant leak, looks to be from just a dry rotted hose or whatnot.
limp mode, (says gearbox fault i think?)
an ABUNDANT amount of codes that are listed below. (car NOT running but in the on position.)
P0300, P0301, P0305, P0308, P1313, P1314, P1316, P0102, P0112, P0128, P0352, P0355, P0358, P0420, P1647, P1797, P0102-P, P0111-P, P0112-P, P0355-P, P0358-P, P1111-P, P1647-P.
all i've gotten so far are new spark plugs and ignition coils that i am actively replacing now, a fresh oil change and a brand spankin new battery.
my main worry is buying parts that i dont actually need, WHERE DO I START?!? anything helps, thank you guys.
