So, right now, I'm on Win11 (eww, but at least it's been gutted and stripped down, with the update system gagged and bound) and I want to move to SteamOS3. Problem, is that I don't want to reset my computer and later find out I deleted all Minecraft saves or something (it's happened once already because I had to reinstall Windows 10 to fix a stupid bug) so I want to make a RAID 1 setup with two 16 terrabyte drives. I've actually been meaning to do that for a while, but never really had a reason to do so until now when I want to make a backup of my entire computer (seven terrabytes total).
So, which HDDs would be better suited as having a long lifespan, and still be affordable that are at or over 16Tb? And what program should I use for Windows, that is also available on Linux? Does it even matter if I use the same program for RAID 1? ideally, I'd like to keep it under 500$, but I just looked and the prices are more around 400$+... The cheapest drive right now was 300$ at the start of the year and is now 450$ as per PCPartPicker. What?
If it helps any, I have a 7800x3D with a 9070xt and 32gb 6400mts CL30 RAM. I know my RAM is overkill, it just flatters my fancy.
Edit : As for the insane prices on drives, I'll just set an alarm on PCPartPicker for when one of the recommended drives drops to an acceptable level.
