I properly ruined my Sportster
I bought this Sportster boggo standard. Before I even picked the bike up from the dealership, I had purchased some aftermarket parts. I was younger and stupid. I stuck some wide drag bars on it, front controls and the lowest suspension I could find. I did leave the bodywork untouched for the first year of ownership until I rode it to a bike festival in Austria and saw some really sweet bobbers. When I got home, the angle grinder came out, and I was cutting up the bike with gay abandon. Fitted a shitty little solo springer seat on it too. The bike became pretty unrideable after about 50 miles due to my arse going numb.
I parked the bike up over a year ago after one final ride that made me wish I could FedEx a slap to my younger self. That ride genuinely had me questioning my decisions. My “modifications” became a transgression my current self simply could not forgive.
I’ve decided to stop the bleeding and do a full teardown to fix my own mistakes. I’m just discovering how much I actually butchered the poor wee thing. If you’ve ever looked at a part you installed and wondered, what was I thinking? you’ll feel my pain here.
Goal is a full rebuild from the frame up, proper custom build. So, I’ll be doing it right this time. None of the nonsense I did when I was younger.
Anyone else ever upgraded their way into a complete disaster?
