What are some series that got a "perfectly fine" adaption but you would be shocked if it got a continuation?

  1. Radiant is a french based manga (manfra) that on paper is your average shonen. Boy with abilites goes on the heroes journey to defeat evil and save the day. But the magic system in this series results in invisible infections that as a result of being different cause numerous cases of bigotry and the journey turns from whimsical magic adventure to "we got to stop this ass-hole from starting a race war"

it got a nice japanese studio adaption (i wish it was by the wakfu studio in france but thats just my bugbear) but the only natural stopping point was at the end of s2 and thats halfway through vol11. as of today theres 18-19 volumes with no real resolution in sight for the new conflict. unless the studio goes with an anime only ending theres no real resolution any time soon so i think it will be left off anime adaptions for the forseeable future.

  1. Drifting dragons is an ensamble cast of airship dragon hunters as they spend their every day lives hunting dragons, cooking them in unique ways and the interpersonal relationship of the dragon hunters (drakers) that comprise of former army soldier with survivors guilt, a guy who is obsessed with eating dragon meat to the point where he will dive off the airship and link down b smash a dragon to get to him. a guy that needed to skip town after cheating at dice games and an orphan who just showed up one day to name but a few.

the art is gorgeous it evokes that old timey skrimshaw when it comes to depicting the airships and the dragons. the animation studio however couldnt quite capture it with 3d animation. it doesnt suck per say but you can feel it wont be picked up again because it didnt do the numbers it needed to stay afloat.

This is indeed a thinly veiled post to recommend 2 manga series that i think should get more eyes on them.

If you're following the show throughout Trumans life you end up learning someone tried to tell him that the world wasn't real, and for 10 or so years nothing on that level occurs he gets married and has a happy life but then its revealed he's still carrying a torch for that person.

Then the set starts falling apart, then the hints start dropping that his dad didnt die. Truman is starting to see his world isnt real

Hes trying to escape, this guy that has a terrifying fear of water is forcing himself and his wife to drive over a bridge and - theres a god damned toxic waste explosion ahead hes still stuck there.

and then Truman snaps during a coffee commercial, is he about to kill his wife? no his friend drops by just in time to stop it.

Next day at the water cooler you're probably asking your friend how long can Truman hold out.

You tune in again and Trumans gone missing and the world is breaking again its day time when its supposed to be night time, the entire town is hunting him the genre shift to horror is weird but its still compelling.

You're wondering what the story is going to be and it cuts to Truman in a boat. the tv shows hero has overcome their trauma and a very justified trauma because a storm is about to kill him.

Yeah you werent around for the early seasons when he was being potty trained or traumatised by the water but you're here now watching the hero fight that trauma to escape.

Storm breaks and hes alive and you think we'll there no way they can top that until the voice of god appears and tells truman not to leave and despite all that truman is going to brave our real world.

At that point its either writing genius or someone the next day is writing on a forum that the truman show jumped the shark for its impromtu finale.
