Homelander's theme is literally falling apart with him

One thing I love about The Boys is how the music evolves with the character of Homelander. This is basically the Homelander hallway theme, but it becomes increasingly distorted as the track progresses , almost like the music itself is mentally unraveling alongside him.

Back in Season 1, Homelander still had a sense of control. He was calm, levelheaded and terrifying because of how calculated he was. But by Season 5, he’s impulsive, emotionally fragile, desperate for validation, constantly on the verge of snapping and honestly more pathetic than intimidating at times.

The score reflects that perfectly. The theme sounds warped, unstable, and almost suffocating. The longer it goes on, the more it feels like the score is losing its grip, mirroring Homelander’s own mental collapse. The distortions, and the uneasy progression helps the viewers feel his downward spiral.

Christopher Lennertz absolutely nailed the psychological storytelling through the music here.

The interesting part is what it says about modern audiences.

People constantly complain that ‘cinema is dying,’ but when original/art-house films release, most viewers still choose familiar IPs, sequels, and streaming comfort content.

So who’s actually responsible for the current state of cinema: studios, algorithms… or audiences themselves?
