Around 10 PM, after a quick run to the nearby supermarket, I went around the locality trying to find a petrol station that was still open. This was in a safe suburban area in South Dublin. I noticed after driving around for a bit that this dark grey saloon car had been behind me for a while. This is obviously not by itself cause for concern, but alarm bells started ringing when he followed me when I pulled into one particular petrol station and pulled out upon seeing it was closed.
Then, a little while later, I indicated to turn left into another petrol station, he turned his left indicator on too, I saw that the station interior was in darkness, turned my indicator off, and he did the same. Eventually I gave him the slip (if he was following me), drove around for another while to make sure he wasn’t still behind me, then took the M50 home.
Obviously, I know that the most likely explanation is that he was another driver looking for an open petrol station, but it’s after spooking me quite a bit. Am I just being paranoid?
