Thinking of taking admission for MFA in documentary filmmaking course of Northwestern University

Hi everyone! I’m an international student planning to apply for the MFA program at , and I’m trying to understand the program and selection process better.

I would really appreciate hearing from current students, alumni, or anyone familiar with the program. I have quite a few questions, especially regarding:

- How competitive is it to get in?

- What kind of portfolio/profile usually gets selected?

- What is the approximate acceptance rate?

- Are interviews required?

- How good is the funding/stipend/assistantship support for MFA students?

- Is the stipend realistically enough to survive in the Chicago/Evanston area as an international student?

- What are the average living expenses (housing, food, transportation, insurance, etc.)?

- How difficult is it to find on-campus jobs or assistantships?

- What has your overall experience been like in the program and with faculty?

- How stressful/manageable is the workload?

- Are international students supported well in terms of career opportunities and networking?

I’m honestly feeling a bit overwhelmed and confused while researching everything, so any advice, personal experiences, or tips would mean a lot. Thank you so much in advance!
