Just finished The Hero of Ages! Some many toughts
Hey everyonee so I just finished The Hero of Ages and I just wanted to share some fresh thoughts and feelings!
I'm both so hyped and touched! Spent the last few pages crying, everytime Sanderson described the beauty of the world being reborn i got so emotional. It was so tender, the epylogue most of all. I must say, I'm still not sure at how I feel about Sazed being the Hero of Ages, I need time to ponder and probably would be sure of that only if i read the books again. With that said, with Sazed always having been my favourite character, I can't not be happy for this choice. While Vin was trying to fix the planet and was so frustrated at her ignorance I kept thinking, you need Sazed and all the knowledge in his copperminds! And at the end I was right hehehe. I always loved how Sanderson crafted this man of knowledge, patient, curios and caring. What a good parent for the world : )
I think it makes sense for Vin and Elend to die at the end: Elend had already died, and Vin had only survived so many times to serve her purpose. And I think it would have been even more heartbreaking had one survived without the other. As Sazed said, they do deserve some rest, and Sanderson even reassures us that they're together and sentient somewhere : ) so i think it's for the best (narrative wise also)
I also liked that Kelsier never came back, I liked him as he was, a man, maybe with something more, I suspect, but I prefer him being left like this is in the series. Also REALLY loved TenSoon and in general the effort Sanderson makes at showing every creature's pov and humanity. It felt fair. Really loved that.
Lastly, even though I never got too attached to Spook, I liked that he was chosen as the "heir", of Kelsier, the crew, and generally of the burden and privilege of caring for and leading the world reborn. It felt a recall to the scene in WoA, when the crew left in Luthadel hopes for the younger generation (Elend, Vin and Spook, leaving the capital), saved and left to rebuild. He was the youngest and the beginning of the book, it's only fair he inherits the world anew. It's how it works.
Okay, now I'm done! I really loved this series! Haven't been so hyped and taken by a fantasy series in so many years! What do you reccomend reading next?? I'm conflicted between continuing with the Mistborn series or getting into Stormlight Archives, as I've gathered it's regarded as Sanderson's best work!
Feel free to share your thoughts too, would love to hear and discuss, I have a lot more to sayy
PS: why did he have to make Breeze and Allrianne a couple? It felt so unnecessary and never striked me right. meh
