Looking for advice on better placement for my Levoit 200S-P in an open-concept apartment.
The living room, dining area, and kitchen are one large rectangular space — about 4,275 cubic feet total (29 ft x 15 ft). I attached a floor plan showing the placement of all my purifiers; the Levoit is marked with a red star.
I’ve tried to be thoughtful about purifier placement overall, especially avoiding positioning units too close to HVAC vents or returns. But after months of observing performance and cleaning filters, I’m starting to wonder whether this is a placement issue or possibly just a product/design issue.
For context: we have two cats, so my other purifiers collect a lot of hair and dust. I have four Mila Air / Mila Air Mini units that need pre-filter cleaning weekly or bi-weekly, and the buildup is very visible on the filter socks. Even my tiny BlueAir Sunrise Clock purifier (which I originally assumed was more gimmick than purifier) visibly accumulates dust and cat hair every week or two.
I also have an Airversa Purelle and Smartmi P1. They don’t collect quite as much visible debris as the Milas, but they still clearly pull in dust over time.
The Levoit, however, barely seems to collect anything at all. I’ve owned it for about 8–9 months, and not once has the pre-filter looked dirty enough that I felt it needed cleaning — though I’ve cleaned it anyway. Even the side air inlets never seem to gather dust. The only noticeable dust buildup is a light layer settling on top of the touch controls.
What surprises me most is that this purifier sits right beside an automatic litter box that gets used multiple times a day.
This is also my only rectangular/square-style purifier. I’d always read that this style tends to be more powerful because of the larger filter surface area, but compared to my 360-degree round purifiers, I’m wondering if placement matters more because the Levoit only intakes air from the front.
That said, it is facing the open room, and its AQI sensor reacts similarly to my other purifiers during cooking or other obvious air quality events.
So I’m curious:
- Does this sound more like a placement problem?
- Is the Levoit possibly just less aggressive at pulling in larger debris like hair?
- Perhaps this real-world use of this specific-model isn't as good as some online reviews lead me to believe?
Do I just have so many damn purifiers in my space that there's nothing left for the Levoit to do? 😉 I'd believe if it I didn't live with two cats who eagerly contribute to an endless amount of visible and non-visible particulates on the daily.
Would appreciate any suggestions or first-hand experiences.
