Master's thesis

I will be starting my master's program this October. The second year of my master's in gonna be a thesis project and I was wondering when would be the correct time to start mailing professors about doing the thesis project at their lab.

Also, how would you like me to mail you? I'm also trying to get funding if possible. How do I politely ask if there is any funding available for me?

How cooked am I?

I wanna work in Academia. I have completed my bachelor's and will be starting my master's soon. I wanna work in Theoretical Physics and do condensed matter research (strongly correlated electron systems that sort of thing, or superconductivity etc idk yet).

What's the funding like? I'm worried I'm gonna be left without a means to support myself or worse be pushed into taking some job I don't like for the money and have no way of getting back.

Ik there isn't a lot of people funding this kinda research compared to say more tech/application oriented stuff but on its own does the domain I wanna work in have enough money for someone to make a living?

I have applied to the JN Tata Endowment. I cleared the 1st screening round and the aptitude test as well. I have been shortlisted for the technical interview.

Anyone who has received this scholarship before or has attended the interview, I'd really appreciate it if you could tell me what the experience is like and how I can prepare for it.

I am a physics student so my interview will be taken by a physics expert but insights from people from any field are welcome.

Also, we have been asked to submit a couple of documents. I have the mandatory documents but the preferred ones, I have only a few. And there are others that will take a while to get. How preferred are these preferred documents? Any idea?

I am coming to Germany for my master's in Physics at the Heidelberg University. I have received my admission letter as well and I am currently in the process of finding accommodation and applying for VISA.

Now the VISA application is asking for my place of stay in Germany and the postal code.

Now I could put down Heidelberg, but I am also looking for accommodation in Mannheim as it's pretty close by.

Now even if I narrow down the city, idk what the postal code will be cause I haven't found my accommodation yet.

What am I supposed to fill in this form?

Someone please help me.

I will be studying my Master's in Physics at Heidelberg starting with the first semester this October.

I am booking flight tickets to Frankfurt. Now I wanna book the tickets for the Christmas break as well, as they get booked super quick. They're already almost all booked.

Now the University website says the Christmas break is from the 21st of December to the 6th of January.

Is this set or a tentative date? Is this reliable enough to book tickets accordingly? If current students can let me know how this works, it would be great. Also, if I do come a day later or leave a day earlier to the breaking making me miss lectures hours, would that be frowned upon? What's the system like? Please let me know ASAP cause the tickets are getting booked FAST.

Thank you!
