Applying for a student visa while in Germany

Hi! I'm planning to attend a German Language school for a year (I currently have A1) So I can have more options of studies and subjects in Germany. I know you can't turn your language visa into a student one but after completion of my course, if I get into any college before that one year ends, can I apply for a student visa while I'm there? Or I would need to come back to my country and apply from here.

Anyone else struggling to score credits?

I'm an international student here in germany and I'm constantly struggling to score grades. Initially, when i moved i was stressed over my finances but eventually i got to it and got it sorted. But all those had me wasted 2 semester. Then finally in third semester, i scored credits for my first subject. Then in 4th i was 100% prepared, did my project perfectly but failed and the examiner didn't even bother giving me a feedback. They posted the same feedback for everyone and when i asked for re-evaluation, they simply said the same thing. Then i wrote my paper and i was able to write everything, i did expect that i will score best grades but i didn't even pass and i broke down, i gave it for re-evaluation but they literally didn't even re-check and apart from that they didn't even write how much marks i scored.

Nothing, just a simple 5.0 in red pen. Thats all. I asked for feedback or where they deducted my marks, they didn't respond and i waited for 8 days to get a response for my mail. When i re-send the mail, they responded and asked to wait and within 3 minutes i got another mail where they sent a message just for formality saying 'we cannot change the grade' nothing more. When i asked for face-to-face review, they refused and claimed they don't give any marks to students. Which is hard to believe cause i have seen my friends who has received marks and knows where they failed and where they haven't. Then again i took another exam, i studied 6hrs everyday for 28 days. I wrote every answer precisely but somehow they failed me for this to and i have yet to review my paper.

I broke down as i lost 25 credits which i prepared for everyday. I've lost the motivation and i'm completely at loss of words. I really have no clue on what i must do as this has completely broken me and it's getting to me.

I need advice and help, if anyone can.

Thank you.

Chances for MSc AI at BTU Cottbus?

Hey everyone, I’ve applied to MSc AI at BTU Cottbus. I have a converted German GPA of 1.2 and IELTS 8.0.

The website doesn’t mention any strict cutoff or ECTS requirements, so I’m a bit confused about my chances — I have a strong CS background with DSA and good AI/ML exposure, along with a decent amount of math.

Along with that, I have a 2 years of work experience as a data engineer. Any insights?

Help me out Guys!! (Aps new regulation)

I am currently in final sem (8th sem) of my btech degree , I got marksheets till 7th sem and current sem bonafide. Just recently I got to know according to the new aps regulation they will only process degree completed applications. my degree will be completed in June-july 2026. I want to apply for winter 2026 intakes but by the time I get degree completion certificate deadlines would already be passed. For summer 2027 intake I know there will be very limited programs( specially specialized ones) which means I would have to apply for winter 2027 intake. I don't wanna wait for 1 year guys. What do I do?

Has anyone had the experience of adding/deleting documents to/from uniassist after a university deadline but before the application has been processed?

I haven't been able to find any answers to this.

I submitted my Master's application on time. It's been nearly two weeks since the deadline, but uniassist hasn't processed any of my documents yet. They are therefore still deletable.

If I hypothetically deleted a document and added one now, would that be a big no-no? Alternatively, if I simply added a document now, without deleting anything, would they still process this document along with all the others submitted before the deadline?

Chances for Medicine in Cologne (Uni Köln) - International Applicant (Abitur 1.0 + TestAS 92%

Hi everyone,

I’m an international applicant (Non-EU) applying for Medicine (Humanmedizin) for the upcoming semester. I wanted to ask about my chances specifically at the University of Cologne (Uni Köln).

My profile:

Abitur: 1.0 (equivalent)

TestAS (Core + Medicine): 92nd Percentile Rank

Language: Goethe C1

Does anyone know the last admitted rank for international students in Cologne from previous years? With a 92% TestAS, do I have a realistic shot at a spot there, or is the competition even higher?

Thanks in advance for any insights!

FAU B.Sc. AI Reviews

Hello Everyone. I will be applying to B.Sc. AI at FAU in Winter Semester 26/27 and wanted to get some reviews. I just saw all the courses offered and noticed that the program kinda forces you to specialize in Biotechnology/Biology. But I want to keep my specialization options open. Is this true?

I also wanted to ask, How good is the overall program? How good is the Job Market for FAU graduates?

I am quite confused and would really appreciate your insight.

Timelines for MSc CS/DS admits in German universities?

Hey everyone,

I’m applying for Winter 2026 and trying to get a realistic idea of admit timelines (after the application is complete/forwarded — not uni-assist time).

If you’ve applied in Winter 2025 or even Summer intakes, could you share:

  1. University + program

  2. When your application was forwarded/complete

  3. When you received the admit/reject

  4. Any status updates in between (if applicable)

  5. your profile.

Specifically looking for:

  1. Philipps University Marburg (MSc CS)

  2. University of Rostock (MSc CS)

  3. TU Dresden (MSc CS)

  4. University of Trier (MSc Data Science / MSc ML)

5.Leibniz University Hannover (MSc CS)

Trying to understand realistic timelines since some say a few weeks while others mention a couple of months.

Would really appreciate any data points. Thanks!

I moved from Canada to do a Master's in Data Science in Dortmund — made a full cost of living breakdown for 2026

Hey everyone, I've been lurking here since before I moved and this community helped me a lot when I was researching Germany.

I've been living in Dortmund for over a year now and I finally put together a full video breaking down every cost you need to know about as an international student — rent, health insurance, groceries, semester contribution, phone plans, the ZDF fee people always forget, and at the end I show my actual bank breakdown (spoiler: 1,042€/month in Dortmund).

I tried to make it useful for people still in the planning phase, not just a vlog. Covers both general estimations per category and my real numbers so you have something concrete to work with.

Happy to answer any questions in the comments too — I know how stressful the financial planning part is before you move.

Support for different applications - uni assist documents

Hi All, I would like to ask for your help. I want to apply to two masters in Berlin (same school) and one in Frankfurt, all three requires a motivational letter. It is clear that I can name the motivational letters (e.g. Goethe Uni - Int. Economics… - LOM)

My question is what about my degree copy, transcript of records, language certificate, so documents they all need?I have already uploaded majority of them because I needed VPD for Münich.

Do I need to rename those as well (e.g. Goethe Uni - degree copy) or uploading them once is enough?

Deadline is May 15th so I believe I’m still in time to apply.

First time applying and I’m a bit nervous about it, I appreciate every help.

Thank you guys!
