Is this even a tick?

I used to live in KY and pulled deer ticks off of my dogs pretty frequently, but I’ve lived in Los Angeles for the last 8 years and haven’t seen a tick until today. This was on my dog for a few hours max and came off with basically no resistance (she’s on frontline, not sure if that plays a role). There are no visible legs or head, but I don’t know what else it would be if not a tick.
