New (to me) G17 Gen 3
Not my first firearm, but first Glock. I've wanted a Glock for years, but went through tons of analysis paralysis, especially because I live in California. Tons of different models, extreme markups on Gen 5s through PPT, etc. With this CA ban on Glocks coming up, I figured I should get one before the ban as I expect private party sale costs will skyrocket.
My intent was to buy a brand new Gen 3 G17, but I was too late and all the stores were sold out and they weren't getting any new ones with this ban coming up. Fortunately, I stumbled upon this consignment G17. Judging from the barrel ramp and magazines, this thing was barely used if at all.
Main purpose of this G17 is Home Defense and target practice, but had a few noob questions as follows:
- SQUEAK - Extremely loud squeaky noise from the recoil spring/guide rod. My friends say this is totally normal, but it bothers me a bit. Does it need to simply be broken in? Do I need to apply any lube? Should I use this as an excuse to buy aftermarket rod/spring?
- SIGHT - I'm thinking of going the RMR HD route, so it looks like my choices are sending in my slide to get milled, purchase factory slide with MOS cutout, or aftermarket slide with cutout (Zev, Norsso, Zaffiri, Taran)? Since this is primarily for home defense, I don't think I need a fancy slide, so really between the first two options. Any concerns for co-witness using the RMR HD? Do I need an adapter plate if I purchase the factory MOS slide?
- LIGHT - Leaning towards the X300, but on the fence about A or B. Reading that I can potentially damage the frame with the X300B?
