So this was back in 2019,
pre pandemic, when ubereats was still relatively new to my area.
I was in my early 20s at the time, and delivering during the daytime, to a large home in the burbs, nothing new.
However, this particular customer answered the door in a bathrobe.
She was kind, but this was a first for me, so i was a bit uncomfortable; caught off guard💂♂️
so i lower my gaze, unzip my delivery bag, retrieve the food and keep it cordial n professional.
And she says something along the lines of “you can just come with me to set it down.”
I’m like ‘uhhh ok’, knowing this is probably against policy, along with i could get my kidney stolen.
But the curiosity is what did it i guess, so i trail behind her (keeping my gaze on the ceiling and walls) and she leads me to the kitchen.
And from one side of the island countertop she kindly states, yet awkwardly gestures, “you can set it down right here”
and thanks me, and then i walk back down the corridor that leads back to the front door..
Afterwards, i left thinking 🤔
“was she showing off her house?
Cause it felt like that vibe, but nice homes are nothing new to me (im brown, maybe she thought im from the trenches from my overall profile)
“Was i on a livestream without my consent?” was another thought that i had.
What do y’all think?
Why would a customer want you to come inside, just to set the food down for them?
I had less survival instinct back then.
I would Uber at 2am in the trenches, somehow i’d just wind up there.
Like spongebob even.
i feel grateful to be alive
