TL;DR: While Mumbai University's website is being reworked, a site called munotes.in scraped all the official PYQs, slapped their watermark on them, and built a paywall business. I bypassed their security, downloaded all 8GBs of papers across 47 courses, and put them on GitHub for free.
The Repo/Org: https://github.com/Mumbai-University-PYQ
The Scam: We all know MU's website is currently undergoing an overhaul, making official past papers temporarily inaccessible. A site called munotes.in realized this and exploited the gap. They hoarded the official MU papers and started charging desperate students ₹49 per paper or ₹149 a courseright in the middle of exam prep season. They are literally profiting ₹10-15 lakhs a yearoff public sector intellectual property that they didn't create.
The Repatriation: This isn't piracy; this is returning stolen goods to their rightful owners (us). I wrote a script to bypass their Cloudflare protection, mapped out their hidden backend URLs, and downloaded every single paper they had hoarded.
What you get:
- 47 Courses (The script scraped what it could but even I have exams so I cannot FAAFO around this anymore)
- ~2,400+ Question Papers (sorted by Year and Sem)
- Completely free, forever.
I will also be e-mailing the MU Board of Examinations and the IT department to hand this repo over to them so they can host it officially. But the way university works (Like SBI Branch) I have very less hopes about this one.
How you can help:
- Star the GitHub repo to give it credibility and visibility.
- Download your course folder immediately (in case they try to DMCA it, though my
LEGAL.mdproves they have zero copyright). - Share this repo in your college WhatsApp groups. Stop letting your batchmates pay a middleman for their own university's public documents.
Let’s make education accessible again.
